JOPLIN, Mo. — There’s a new way to warn drivers when a firetruck is running lights and sirens nearby.

The new truck at Joplin Fire Station Seven is equipped with Safety Cloud® by HAAS Alert. That means it’s capable of sending out a real-time digital alert to cars on the road.

Vehicles with Apple CarPlay, the Waze app, and similar systems will notify the driver that there’s a firetruck on an emergency call, something similar to an Amber Alert.

“New cars are coming out with more and more technology. And essentially what it does is it signals your personal vehicle that there is either an apparatus ahead or there’s one approaching that’s running emergency,” said Andy Nimmo, JFD Deputy Fire Chief.

The digital alert system is offered for free for up to five years with the new firetruck.
