Western Albemarle Emergency Vehicles Show Up On Navigation Apps
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Avoiding emergency vehicles on the roads just got easier and safer in western Albemarle County.
The Western Albemarle Rescue Squad has paid for Haas Alert Systems.
Their vehicles were hooked up to the system that connected with most car brands and the most popular navigation apps.
Drivers will get an alert if they’re driving toward an emergency response scene or if an emergency vehicle is coming up behind them.
"High violence areas that public safety may go to, it's actually more dangerous for us to run motor vehicle accidents. We have one of the most dangerous sections of interstate where VDOT considers Afton Mountain, you know, a high-crash area," WARS Deputy Chief Patrick Watson said .
Watson said he hopes this helps people to pull over more quickly when an emergency vehicle is coming from behind.
