Volvo Group Grows CampX Innovation Hub to Accelerate Sustainable Transport

May 13, 2024

April 24, 2024The hub brings together technology groups, startups, partners, academia, venture networks, and public authorities for co-creation and testing of new ideas to accelerate sustainable transport with an entrepreneurial mindset.

“CampX is our strategic concept designed to accelerate new technology and business innovations by partnering with startups. The addition of this CampX collaboration arena in North America expands and strengthens the global network we have in the Volvo Group,” said Lars Stenqvist, CTO Volvo Group. “Startups with promising technologies can collaborate with Volvo's experts during short validation projects at our state-of-the-art testing facilities.”

CampX by Volvo Group helps bring innovations to life by building partnerships with start-ups to accelerate technology and business innovation. This work is accomplished in three tracks: the incubator, the accelerator and the venture builder.

”I am excited to be in the U.S. for the inauguration of the Volvo Group North America CampX facility,” said Martin Lundstedt, president and CEO of Volvo Group. ”Entrepreneurs and industry leaders will team up with our business experts and use this innovative space to shape a fossil-free, more safe and productive future of transportation. Partnership is the new leadership!”

CampX North America was established in the Triad in September 2022 and is part of the Volvo Group global innovative accelerator with locations in Gothenburg, Sweden, Bangalore, India and Lyon, France.

The new 3,400 square foot CampX innovation space is located in the Corporate Center building on Volvo Group North America’s main campus. The building is also home to Volvo Trucks’ North American headquarters and Mack Trucks’ global headquarters. The lab includes a workspace for team collaboration, dedicated areas for brainstorming sessions and think tank workshops, and flexible spaces to accommodate diverse projects and activities.

“The expansion of CampX’s footprint in North America underscores the Volvo Group’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement,” said Stephen Roy, Volvo Group North America chairman and Mack Trucks president. “By providing our team access to a state-of-the-art facility on our Triad campus, we aim to accelerate the pace of innovation and cultivate a dynamic environment for creativity, career growth and community engagement.”

Since its inauguration in 2019, CampX has hosted more than 100 startups globally as they developed their ideas. CampX North America has facilitated 40 exploration cases with focus areas in sustainable transport, autonomous transport, digital services and products.

Accelerator startups are working across a targeted range of prioritized high-tech areas. Examples include:

  •  ONRAMP, cardless fuel payments solution for the trucking industry, eliminating fraud and creating a better driver experience.
  •  iNAGO, intelligent conversational assistants with artificial intelligence and natural language.
  • Betterfrost, Defrost and Defog with 20X Less Energy.
  •  Gig and Take, provider of software and expertise to enable flexible workforce in factories.
  •  HAAS Alert's Safety Cloud® platform enables safer and smarter mobility through real-time digital alerting and cloud-based V2X.

“This is a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs with early innovations to partner with the Volvo Group and move their technology forward,” said Chris Coulter, CampX North America hub lead. “To date, we have explored more than 40 start-ups and evaluated 10 proof of value cases in North America, with more potential collaborations on the horizon.”
