IAFC Fire and EMS National Emergency Safety and Survival Alert

Feb 5, 2019

Earlier this week, the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), through its Safety, Health and Survival Section and in cooperation with the Emergency Responder Safety Institute (ERSI), issued an emergency safety and survival alert to all Fire Chiefs and Officers.

Already in 2019, at least 10 First Responders have been struck and killed by passing motorists on our roadways. Non-fatal collisions are also happening more frequently and on a daily basis all across the country. Despite brighter lights and louder sirens, collisions, injuries and fatalities are on the rise at an alarming rate.

HAAS Alert launched in 2015 with the mission of eliminating preventable First Responder collisions. The HAAS Alert Safety Cloud™ collision prevention service now protects personnel and fleets from over 60 departments across the US and Canada by sending real-time digital alerts to motorists as they approach nearby responding and on-scene emergency, rapid response vehicles and other critical roadway operators. Service is compatible with any type of fleet vehicle and delivers alerts to drivers via smartphone navigation apps and in-car infotainment screens.

"Firefighters are more at risk now than ever before, and unfortunately, numerous recent crashes back that up."

-- Chief Dan Eggleston, IAFC President and Chairman of the Board
