Alert System Lets Palm Beach Drivers Know Emergency Vehicles are Coming

May 8, 2025

Some drivers in Palm Beach have a new way to know if an emergency vehicle is heading their way.

Palm Beach Fire-Rescue recently began using a system called HAAS Alert, which notifies compatible vehicle infotainment systems and navigation apps that an emergency vehicle is approaching.

"We deployed that as a trial on one unit of our engines, and it's worked so well that we've decided that we're going to add this to all of our units," said Assistant Fire Chief Joe Sekula, Fire-Rescue spokesman.

As an emergency vehicle approaches, the HAAS system lets drivers know so that they can begin to move out of the way and make a path.

It's available for infotainment systems that use Apple Maps or Waze, and in vehicles made by Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Volkswagen.

The system is used by agencies throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, according to the HAAS Alert website. Palm Beach is one of more than 100 emergency-response agencies in Florida — including Sebring, Seminole County, South Walton Fire District and Midway — that employ HAAS Alert, according to the company.
