PA Turnpike Turns to HAAS Alert for Digital Alerting Safety Service

14700

CHICAGO — February 10, 2020 – HAAS Alert has partnered with the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) to provide digital alerting safety.

The PA Turnpike’s State Farm Safety Patrol Vehicles are now using the HAAS Alert Safety Cloud® collision prevention service. Through this service, when safety patrols are helping motorists or working incidents on the PA Turnpike, nearby drivers using the Waze mobile navigation app will receive digital hazard alerts in advance. The service provides motorists advanced warning of an incident in the road ahead and provides ample time to comply with Pennsylvania’s Steer Clear Law, which requires motorists to move over or slow down when encountering an emergency scene.

Emergency responders typically provide services inches away from live traffic. “When traveling at highway speeds, distracted drivers are not recognizing hazardous situations in enough time to safely slow down or move over,” said HAAS Alert CEO Cory Hohs. “Our service delivers advance warning to drivers through Waze so they can make safer, smarter driving decisions.”

“The PTC has been engaged in emerging technologies to ensure we are ready to take advantage of their potential to reduce crashes and alert our customers to any problems on our 552-mile roadway,” explained Tim Scanlon, P.E., PA Turnpike’s Director of Traffic Engineering and Operations.

While Waze is HAAS Alert’s first digital alerting partner, the company is working to deliver its safety alerts to a much wider audience. “Our goal is to send digital safety alerts to all drivers on the roadway,” says Jeremy Agulnek, HAAS Alert’s Vice President of Connected Car. “Whether the driver is using a mobile navigation app or operating a connected vehicle, these types of alerts should be, and will be, a standard safety feature.”
